Let’s take a close-up look at the Oly Bumper Plates from Rep.
If you are new to weightlifting and wonder what bumper plates are, they are simply weighted plates made of high-density rubber. They have the official diameter across all weights and are used in lifts (Olympic and CrossFit) where the weighted barbell is dropped to the ground.
Here are some of the styles we are going to look at:
Rep Bumper Plates – Overview
The difference between bumper plates and normal plates is normal plates are made from iron cast and bare steel wrapped in rubber. Bumper plates are made of rubber (sometimes recycled) except for the steel or brass bushing around the inner hole. Bumper plates are quieter than iron plates, and you can even decrease their decibel level by using rubber matting. Bumper plates offer more versatility than iron plates because you can drop bumper plates from any height without worry. You can do the snatch, deadlift, clean and jerk, overhead press, and other exercises without fretting about dropping the bar. Bumper plates are also safer to use. Their rubber construction enables a loaded bar to be dropped securely with no chance of damaging your floor, plates, platform, bar, onlookers, or you.
Rep Fitness offers attractive and durable bumper plates designed for cross-training/HIIT workouts and Olympic weightlifting. They are safe to use, have an extra inner steel ring, and factory tested with a warranty. They offer different kinds of bumper plates to meet your needs and preferences.
Rep Black Bumper Plates
The Rep Black Bumper Plates are remarkably tough and smooth, created explicitly for cross-training/HIIT workouts and Olympic weightlifting. When training for the Olympic lifts, the bar is overhead or at shoulder height in the end. This way, the lifter can drop the bar after performing a lift, or if a lift is missed, you can drop the weights without damaging the bar, flooring, surrounding equipment, etc. To increase durability, the 10LB Black Bumpers are extra thick and are highly resistant to bending, while the 45 LB are thinner than most at 2.83″ thick to provide more weight to fit on the bar.
Some recycled rubber bumper plates will bounce very high and make you follow the bar around, but Rep Black Bumper Plates have a very low bounce. They have a thin profile and have excellent craftsmanship and form. Compared to the older designs with brass inserts, these bumpers have steel inserts with hooks molded into the bumper plates to enhance durability. They are factory tested to endure over 12,000 drops from a height of 8 ft.
Hi-Temp Bumper Plates
Hi-Temp Bumper Plates are rough and sturdy, made out of recycled rubber, and are created to endure plenty of drops on harsh surfaces like cement. Though this can be used indoors, Hi-Temp Bumper Plates are best used outside with their crumb rubber.
They are incredibly durable and environmentally friendly. Hi-Temp Bumper Plates come in pairs of 5LB, 10LB, 15LB, 25LB, 35LB, and 45LB.
Rep Sport Plates
No matter what you do with Rep Sports Plates, whether you slam them from overhead in your home gym, driveway, commercial gym, or even on the side of a mountain, Rep Sport Plates can endure them. They are very durable, premium bumper plates that you can use anytime and anywhere you want. They have a unique, textured exterior and soft, grippy rubber making them easy and smooth to handle.
They highlight solid but flexible rubber giving you all the gains from high-quality bumper plates. Rep Sports Plates give low bounce for natural movement cycling and 10% quieter when dropped from overhead. They have textured rubber around the outer edge for easy handling and are great for commercial use and home gyms.
Rep Color Bumper Plates
The Color Bumper Plates are manufactured with the same high standards as Rep’s black plates. The addition of different colors presents an easy and proper loading of the bar every time so you can see how much weight is placed in significant training events.
They are made of excellent craftsmanship and design with steel inserts molded into the bumper plates to boost durability. They bounce very low compared to other recycled bumper plates. You can fit 515lbs of these bumper plates on the bar, and they can resist over 12,000 drops from a height of 8 ft.
Rep Competition Bumper Plates (KG and LB)
If you are serious about Olympic lifting, Rep Competition Bumper Plates will work great for you. These bumper plates are the best Rep offers, and they are even more durable than their training plates when lifting heavy. These plates have a patented and advanced design for the inner collar piece, which enhances sturdiness. Rep Competition Bumper Plates have an extra inner steel ring and a patented means of connecting to the rubber plate for better absorption and diffusion of force.
They have raised lettering and raised rubber surfaces around the center disc to restrict metal-on-metal contact. They produce low bounce and have +/- 10 grams of claimed weight. Rep Competition Bumper Plates have Zinc coated steel disc insert and have a five-year warranty on all plates. They are factory tested to last more than 30,000 drops.
